On Saturday, Lincoln Riley and the USC football team will host Iowa at the Coliseum. It will mark the first meeting between the Trojans and the Hawkeyes since USC joined the Big Ten last season. Two years ago, when the Trojans were still in the Pac-12, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz took an unprompted shot at Lincoln Riley and USC. When asked about his team’s struggling offense, Ferentz brought up the Trojans.

“I’m really not worried about points per game,” Ferentz said. “I can think of a guy who entered the conference recently that came with widely acclaimed, you know offensive stats and all that . . . what’s this guy’s wins per game?

“There’s usually a correlation. You know, people that just throw the ball around? You know, it makes it tougher to win, it makes it tougher to be good on defense.

“There’s a school on the West Coast right now that’s gonna re-commit to defense. You know, gave up 42 last year to Tulane in a bowl game.”

It seems as though Ferentz is not exactly the biggest fan of Riley and the Trojans. While the longtime Iowa head coach has faced USC twice during his time with the Hawkeyes, this will be the first time that Riley is on the opposite sideline. It will be interesting to see if there is any bad blood between the two head coaches, or if it has all settled over by the time Saturday’s game rolls around.
