The Texas Longhorns season comes to a head today. If the Horns have any hope of making the college football playoff, UT must find a way to beat Vanderbilt at DKR. Arch Manning has cleared concussion protocol and is set to start.

The high hopes for the Longhorns season were stoked by media adoration and a preseason No. 1 ranking. But an opening week loss and a devastating defeat at Florida have put the season on the brink. Texas has only really looked like a playoff-type team in a couple of games.

Even in wins, Texas has struggled. Against UTEP, Kentucky and the Bulldogs Arch Manning and the offense have sputtered and at times looked totally inept. There have been flashes of the team fans thought they’d see all year, like last week’s fourth quarter at Mississippi State.

Vandy is having a historically good season behind dual threat QB Diego Pavia. Historically the SEC’s doormat, the Commodores are ranked in the top ten and will give the suddenly porous Texas defense fits.

Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 0, Texas 17

Long Longhorns Drive leads to TD

Texas is looking more like the team fans thought they’d be this year today. Manning led the UT offense on a 10-play, 83 yard drive capped by a rollout pass to CJ Baxter for the touchdown.

UT settles for FG

After the fumble, Manning had a couple pretty bad throws and the drive stalled. The Longhorns settled for a Mason Shipley 39-yard field goal

Horns recover Vandy Fumble

After the UT TD, the Vandy offense took over. But under pressure, QB Diego Pavia fumbled. Texas takes over at the Vanderbilt 29.

Wingo TD on first play

Well, that’s a good start. Arch Manning threw a swing pass to Ryan Wingo and the speedy receiver did the rest, sprinting down the sideline 75-yards for a first-play touchdown.

Texas offense gets the ball

Vandy won the toss and elected to defer. Arch Manning and the Texas offense take the field first.
