In what has been a busy week on the recruiting front for the Longhorns, there was another to celebrate on Saturday. The Longhorns were able to flip four-defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton, who had been committed to Baylor. The four-star recruit is one of the best players in the 2026 class and will join a group that is ranked as one of the best in the nation.
During the recruiting process, the Texas native drew interest from elite programs. That list includes LSU, Texas Tech, and Arizona State. While Carlton was poised to join the Bears, Texas never gave up, and its persistence has paid off. It comes as no surprise, given how good Carlton has been during his high school career.

As a junior, Carlton was a human highlight reel while showcasing his star potential. The Temple High product recorded 57 tackles, including 11 for a loss. He also added five sacks to his resume while playing primarily on the edge. Regardless of how he was lined up against, the newest Longhorn found a way to make an impact and frustrate offensive coordinators.
Currently, Carlton is ranked as the 21st-best defensive lineman in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 22nd best player in his class and the 158th best player in the nation. Those rankings are partly why Texas made Carlton a priority during the recruiting process.

With Carlton now officially in the mix, Texas has nearly finished adding to its 2027 class. They will be led by two five-star recruits in Dia Bell and Jermaine Bishop. They will get some help from a promising group of four-star prospects that includes Tyler Atkinson, Kosi Okpala, Richard Wesley, Samari Matthews, Derrek Cooper, and now Carlton. That group should provide Longhorns fans with plenty of unforgettable moments.
While his collegiate debut is still months away, the Longhorns' future got a lot brighter when Carlton decided to take his talents to Austin.
