For the third time in the last week, the Texas Longhorns have flipped another recruit. On Wednesday, Steve Sarkisian and his staff secured a commitment from three-star linebacker Rocky Cummings. The three-star recruit who is in the 2026 class had previously been committed to Cal. He will join a Longhorns group tasked with bringing a national title to Austin.
During the recruiting process, Cummings piqued the interest of schools nationwide. That list includes Utah, Boston College, Arizona, and Cal. He had been committed to the Golden Bears since June, but took a visit to Austin last weekend. After seeing what the Longhorns had to offer, he decided that Texas would be the best place for him to begin his college career.

Currently, the Carlsbad High star is ranked as the 37th best linebacker in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 43rd-best player from California. The high praise comes as no surprise following a solid 2024 campaign in which Cummings made the most of his playing time.
As a junior, the newest Longhorn recorded 29 tackles in seven games. He also recorded three sacks and saw some time at tight end, hauling in one touchdown reception. His season, however, was cut short due to an illness that forced him to miss five games.

Now that Cummings is in the mix, the Longhorns have fewer spots to fill for next year. Their 2026 class will be led by two five-star recruits in Dia Bell and Jermaine Bishop. They will be joined by a talented group of four-star recruits that includes Tyler Atkinson, Richard Wesley, Samari Matthews, Derek Cooper, James Johnson, and Corey Wells.
With more prospects still on the board, Texas will be a program to watch over the next few weeks. They have shown that they will pursue any player in their pursuit of winning a title.
