Lou Holtz is still fighting.
The legendary college football head coach was placed into hospice care earlier this week. His family released a statement as they stood by him in Florida.
“As family has always been the highest importance to Coach, we are holding to each other and focusing on making every moment and day count,” Lou Holtz's son, Kevin, wrote earlier in the day on Saturday. “The whole family appreciates your thoughts, prayers, and support but ask for privacy as we navigate this journey.”
On Sunday morning, Lou Holtz's son, Skip, released a statement on their father's condition.
The son of the legendary Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach said on Sunday morning, at 8:33 a.m. E.T., that his dad is still fighting.
They appreciate the prayers.
"Appreciate everyone’s text and prayers. Dad is 89 and he is STILL fighting the fight! Only the man upstairs knows how much time is left on the clock. 🙏Cherishing the time we still have together in Orlando," he wrote.

His former players are sending prayers, as well.
"Please 🙏🏾 for my coach, Lou Holtz & his family while he is in hospice. He forever changed my life & the many great men I played with in the 1990s with unshakable love & support, while exemplifying the spirit of Notre Dame with trust, care & a commitment of excellence.❤️ U Coach!" Lake Dawson shared.
