‘Loves the Madness’ — CFB Analyst Predicts Lane Kiffin’s Mindset As LSU Faces Potential SEC Expulsion

The future of the LSU Tigers remains uncertain, as the SEC has scheduled a meeting to discuss the possibility of terminating LSU’s conference membership. The controversy began after head coach Lane Kiffin sought to add former NFL players to the team’s roster.

J.D. PicKell Says Lane Kiffin Loves LSU Chaos

The situation continues to become more dramatic, and college football analyst J.D. PicKell believes Kiffin is enjoying every moment of the controversy. Reacting to the latest developments, he said:

“I fully believe that Lane Kiffin has some confidence that LSU won’t get kicked out of the SEC, so I’ll just have that out there on the record. I think he probably is relishing what this kind of storyline can do for his locker room and his football team in this sense. Because you’ve got to think now, he’s already telling you, ‘Hey, the whole world hates you. They hate that they paid me however much money to leave Ole Miss. They hate that we have $40-plus million to put this roster together.’”

PicKell also added:

“They hate now that we’re trying to get guys who were on NFL rosters and in NFL locker rooms back onto our football team. They hate us, and guess what? I think Lane Kiffin loves it. I think he relishes it. I think he loves a galvanized LSU outfit. I think it’s honestly what he’s trying to do here.”

PicKell also mentioned that Kiffin’s desire to put Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris in LSU uniforms could have provided the Tigers with a significant advantage. That pursuit was where the entire controversy began.

Both players previously competed for Kiffin at Ole Miss before signing NFL contracts as undrafted free agents. Wright spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, while Harris signed with the New Orleans Saints. They later attempted to return to college after changes to the NCAA’s eligibility system.

However, the SEC has rules prohibiting players with major professional experience from returning to compete for its member institutions. The conference also approved significant penalties for violations, including a possible half-season suspension for the head coach and a fine worth up to half of the football program’s budget. LSU abstained from the vote on those penalties.

The SEC’s presidents and chancellors are scheduled to meet this Thursday to discuss what the future holds for LSU. The Tigers can only be removed if at least two-thirds of the conference’s university presidents—11 of the 16 members—vote in favor of expulsion.

Although LSU eventually left Wright and Harris off its roster, the decision has not ended the dispute. The SEC has accused LSU of lacking institutional control and raised concerns about whether university officials have meaningful authority over Kiffin’s actions. The conference is also seeking to defend its ability to establish and enforce rules for its members.

Removing LSU would be an extraordinary decision because the university has been a member of the SEC since its establishment in 1933.

Kiffin has now announced his LSU roster, which doesn’t include Dae’quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, which most probably change SEC’s mind of the potential expulsion.
