LSU decides not to add Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to official roster

Despite being granted an injunction just a day ago, Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were left off of the official roster when LSU submitted this evening. Yesterday’s court ruling appeared to pave the way for them to be added, but Kiffin and co. decided to opt for the safe route.

In what had become a back and forth battle between players like Harris/Wright and the SEC, LSU was waiting to make their decision. Although the university had not been directly involved in any of the lawsuits, that changed yesterday when it was reported that the SEC sued LSU, Lane Kiffin, President Wade Rousse, Athletic Director Verge Ausberry, and the LSU board of supervisors. The lawsuit was to be a federal case in Alabama.

Then on Friday, the College Football Playoff Committee released a statement announcing their support of the conferences’ rules that would ban professional players from returning to college to compete.

It’s possible that one or both of those problems that were to loom over LSU’s head if they chose to roster the players was the ultimate reason for their decision. As people across the college football landscape had asked for weeks, was it going to be worth it.

It appeared as if yesterday’s injunction was going to lead to Wright and Harris officially becoming Tigers, but something changed in the past 24 hours.

It’s worth noting that Pete Thamel specified that LSU turned their roster in with 103 players. The limit is 105, so it’s possible that they left the door open to potentially add them later if more clarity arrives in this saga.

For now, their is a bit of resolution and the focus can and should go back to football.
