LSU enters 2026 with nine players on the preseason All-SEC team

Lane Kiffin has made it very clear that being at LSU is “just different” and the media is beginning to catch on.
LSU entered the 2025 preseason with five All-SEC players on what was expected to be a College Football Playoff roster. This year, in Kiffin’s first season as the head coach, LSU has nearly doubled that total with nine selections, and nearly half of those players came through the transfer portal, proving Kiffin’s thought process correct—at least on paper.
LSU finds itself with five First Team All-SEC selections: TE Trey’Dez Green, OT Jordan Seaton, DL Princewill Umanmielen, LB Whit Weeks, and P Grant Chadwick. The Tigers also have two Second Team selections in DB DJ Pickett and S Ty Benefield. Rounding out the list are Third Team selections C Braelin Moore and LB TJ Dottery.
Seeing names like Seaton, Umanmielen, Benefield, and Dottery shows that the media is already familiar with the caliber of players they are. This is only the preseason All-SEC Team, so it will be interesting to see how this roster compares to the postseason All-SEC Team once all the games have been played.
One interesting note is that LSU QB Sam Leavitt did not make any of the three All-SEC teams. The quarterbacks selected were Arch Manning of Texas, Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss, and Gunner Stockton of Georgia.
What makes that even more intriguing is that FanDuel has already released its 2026 Heisman Trophy odds, and Sam Leavitt currently sits at No. 10 nationally at +2200 to win the Heisman. That gives him the third-best odds among SEC players, trailing only Manning and Chambliss.
Preseason All-Conference teams are always a sign that football season is almost here and that we’re getting closer to hearing chinstraps buckle.
