LSU football is expected to be one of the top players in the transfer portal market. New head coach Lane Kiffin has a reputation for acquiring top talent in the portal, but with the coaching change, LSU will lose a handful of players, too. Significant turnover throughout the program is the norm anytime there’s a head coaching transition.

In LSU’s case, expect more turnover on the offensive side of the ball thanks to defensive coordinator Blake Baker being retained.

The portal officially opens on January 2, but plenty of reports have already signaled which players will throw their names in. For now, most of the news will focus on departures. When the portal officially opens, you’ll begin to hear a lot more about likely landing destinations.

Several Tigers are reportedly set to test the water in January; however, some of the transfers will suit up in LSU’s bowl game vs. Houston on Dec. 27.

Carius Curne — OL — Freshman

Curne was one of LSU’s top signees in the 2025 recruiting class. The five-star made his first start in September and was a constant in LSU’s offensive line rotation. There were struggles, but that’s expected for a true freshman tackle playing in the SEC.

It’s hard to build talented offensive line depth, making Curne a tough loss for LSU. There’s a good chance he remains in the SEC at one of LSU’s rivals.

Kaleb Jackson — RB — RS Sophomore

Jackson looked promising as a true freshman in 2023, but never caught on in LSU’s rotation. Jackson was a four-star recruit and looked the part, showcasing his talent early. LSU’s running back room hasn’t been anything special in recent years, so Jackson’s inability to carve out a role doesn’t bode well for his future at another SEC program. Jackson would be a strong candidate to transfer down to the G6.

Colin Hurley — QB — RS Freshman

LSU’s quarterback depth is growing thin with Colin Hurley expected to hit the transfer portal. Hurley signed with LSU in 2024 after reclassifying — he was only 16 when he arrived at LSU. Hurley missed spring practice after being injured in a January car crash. He made a full recovery and rejoined the team during fall camp. Hurley did not see the field in his two years in Baton Rouge. He’s a former four-star recruit and P4 school could be intrigued by the talent.

Ju’Juan Johnson — QB/RB — Sophomore

Johnson proved to be versatile in his two years at LSU. If LSU needed depth at QB, Johnson worked with the QBs. When LSU needed help at RB, Johnson went with the RBs. Running back is where Johnson saw his most action on the field at LSU, but he was an uber-productive quarterback at the high school level in Louisiana. Johnson has taken to social media and expressed his desire to play QB, which could play a role in his decision to transfer.

Sydir Mitchell — DL — RS Sophomore

Sydir Mitchell’s intention to enter the portal has been no secret. He was dismissed from the team midseason and was not in the rotation early in the year. Mitchell transferred to LSU last offseason after begining his career at Texas — he’ll now search for his third school.

Ahmad Breaux — DL — Sophomore

In two years at LSU, Breaux saw 566 snaps on the defensive line. He was a talented young player who made an immediate impact. Breaux isn’t a massive loss, but it stings to lose a rising junior with experience at defensive tackle. Breaux should get plenty of looks from P4 programs.

Jelani Watkins — WR — RS Freshman

Watkins signed with LSU in 2024 as a four-star recruit out of Texas. Watkins was one of the fastest recruits in his class and has shone as a dual-sport athlete on LSU’s track team. Watkins didn’t find the same success on the football field in Baton Rouge, struggling to crack the rotation.

Kylan Billiot — WR — RS Freshman

Billot, like Watkins, was a four-star receiver in the 2024 signing class. He’s a Louisiana native who played high school football at Terrebonne High. Billiot only saw offensive snaps in one game this year and did not receive a single target.

Ashton Stamps — CB — JR

We’ve known about Ashton Stamps’ desire to enter the portal for a while. He was surpassed on the depth chart by newcomers Mansoor Delane and DJ Pickett. Without a spot in the rotation, Stamps opted to take a redshirt. The writing was on the wall.

Stamps was a full-time starter in 2024 and saw significant snaps as a true freshman in 2023. He took a step forward in 2024 and had a productive year. He’s worth a look for a Power Four program.
