LSU football safety Austin Ausberry is planning to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. Ausberry is the son of LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry.
Ausberry was a four-star recruit in 2022 and originally signed with Auburn before transferring to LSU. He took a redshirt in his first year at Auburn, only playing in four games. He only appeared in three games as a sophomore on the Plains.
At LSU in 2024, Ausberry played in 12 games and contributed on LSU's special teams, primarily on its kickoff teams.
Ausberry didn't play as big a special-teams role in 2025, only playing 14 snaps. With a decreasing role on special teams and no role in the defensive rotation, Ausberry is going to explore his options. Between his four years at Auburn and LSU, Ausberry has played just five defensive snaps. His only defensive appearance at LSU came vs. Vanderbilt in 2024.
