LSU football and Lane Kiffin are closing in on a key coaching staff addition. Per reports, the Tigers are expected to hire Sterling Lucas to head up the defensive line. Lucas spent the last several years at South Carolina and replaces Kyle Williams, who is stepping away from college coaching to spend time with his family.
So far, Williams is the only departure from LSU's defensive coaching staff, thanks to Kiffin retaining defensive coordinator Blake Baker. The rest of Baker's staff has remained intact. The addition of Lucas was first reported by FootballScoop and later confirmed by The Advocate's Wilson Alexander.
LSU is retaining edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples. Lucas will work with the Tigers' interior defensive line.
Lucas built a strong reputation for his work at South Carolina. In recent years, the Gamecocks' defensive line has been one of the best in the SEC with star edge rushers like Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart.
