LSU football added a slew of running backs via the transfer portal this offseason, but it appears they aren’t finished reloading the already-deep position group. Lane Kiffin and co. are pushing hard for Louisiana native Trey Martin, a four-star back who ranks as a top 200 recruit and the No. 12 running back in the 2027 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Martin attended a Junior Day in Baton Rouge back in January and is set to return to campus this month.
247Sports’ Andrew Ivins describes Martin as a “slashing runner with an impressive mix of speed and power,” an exciting description for the rising senior who is listed at 5-10 and 202 pounds. On the heels of adding three-star running back Brennen Lacey, the Tigers could be closing in on Martin.
At one point, Alabama was the trending school for the Louisiana rusher. Now, LSU has the momentum. Martin's official visit will be a prime chance for LSU to make a statement. LSU used a series of official visits last weekend to land a handful of commitments. If Lane Kiffin and staff have the same luck with Martin's visit, Martin could join LSU's class within the next month.
Although this new era of college football makes it hard to believe a decision is final until the ink has dried, it would be fairly concerning if Kiffin and his staff lost out on Martin at this point. The Tigers’ 2027 class currently sits at 47th on 247Sports’ rankings, and it would be comforting to see Martin’s commitment help boost that ranking.
