BATON ROUGE – Reunited and it feels so good.

Ole Miss freshman transfer offensive lineman Devin Harper has signed with LSU football, the program announced Friday. Harper is officially following Lane Kiffin from Oxford to Baton Rouge.

Harper is rated a top-100 player in the transfer portal and he was a top-150 prospect coming out of Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport and he has fours years of eligibility remaining.

Why Devin Harper picked LSU football out of transfer portal

This is a pretty simple explanation here. Harper played for Kiffin, in Kiffin’s offensive system, last season at Ole Miss and the big, 6-foot-4, 315-pound offensive lineman wants to continue to develop in that scheme.

He and Kiffin already have a relationship established and that factors into this as well. Harper was recruited by LSU out of high school so there’s also a familiarity there between him and the school and program, too.

How Devin Harper fits with LSU football’s roster

Harper marks the sixth offensive line to commit and signed with LSU out of transfer portal this cycle. Because of attrition and coaching changes at LSU, Kiffin has basically had to rebuild the Tigers’ offense from the ground up.

Offensive line is a big area in that rebuild. Harper comes to LSU with experience with Kiffin and there are positions open for the taking. The expectation is Harper comes in and challenges for a starting role in Kiffin’s offense.

LSU football transfer targets

  • Missouri edge rusher Damon Wilson
  • Ohio State safety Faheem Delane
  • Ole Miss linebacker T.J. Dottery
  • Maryland offensive lineman Aliou Bah
  • North Dakota linebacker Theo Grace

When does transfer portal close?

The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date, but those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
