LSU football linebacker Princeton Malbrue announced Monday afternoon that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

A former two-star recruit, Malbrue began his college career at Northwestern State before transferring to LSU in 2022. He’s been unable to work his way up the Tigers’ depth chart over his four seasons in Baton Rouge, playing only 41 defensive snaps during that stretch, per PFF.

Malbrue was a consistent contributor on special teams, however, tallying 122 special teams snaps in 2025. His involvement in that role was especially impressive, given that he suffered an ACL tear during the Tigers’ 2024 season opener.

Off the field, Malbrue made the most of his time at LSU. He has been named to the SEC’s academic honor roll three times, graduating with a degree in sport administration in May 2024.

It’s unclear where Malbrue might end up when the Transfer Portal closes in mid-January, but he likely felt he didn’t have a clear path to playing time under the Tigers’ new staff. Hopefully, he’ll find that wherever he ends up next.
