LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin had an impressive first week on the recruiting trail, navigating the early signing period. Kiffin's new staff managed to pull off a few flips and close the deal with some of LSU's top commits, but there were some losses, too. As there is with any coaching transition, committees will explore other options.
On Thursday, LSU took a hit, losing safety Dylan Purter to Florida.
Purter committed to LSU in March and held firm immediately after the firing of Brian Kelly. But with uncertainty around LSU's defensive staff, Purter flipped to the Gators. According to Rivals, Purter is the No. 15-ranked safety in the class. Purter played his high school ball at Booker T. Washington in Alabama and was recruited by several top SEC schools.
As of Friday morning, the final day of the Early Signing Period, LSU's class ranks No. 11 in the country, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. LSU has 15 commits, but the Tigers are hoping to get three defensive blue-chips across the finish line on Friday. Lamar Brown, Deuce Geralds, and Trenton Henderson have all yet to sign.
