The availability of Sam Leavitt could decide if Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss is a big success or stinging disappointment. It is hard to put that kind of pressure on one player, but LSU’s high-powered offense could be difficult to execute without a healthy starting quarterback. The Tigers surprised many people after listing Leavitt doubtful for Saturday’s Ole Miss game, and they are keeping everyone on their toes on Thursday. If Leavitt has a chance to play in one of the most anticipated games of the 2026 college football season, it seems unlikely he will sit out. The former Second-Team All-Big 12 selection was instrumental in the Sun Devils reaching the College Football Playoff quarterfinals in 2024-25, but he played in only seven games last year after suffering a foot injury. Sam Leavitt has also endured his share of struggles early in his Tigers tenure, throwing three interceptions in the second quarter of last Saturday’s 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech. He has to get right quickly.

Those type of mistakes could produce disastrous results in a boisterous environment such as Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Composure is essential in a top-10 matchup, especially for the road team. LSU football will ideally give fans more clarity surrounding Leavitt’s status, but he is seemingly trending upward after a mid-week scare.
Even the injury report is packed with intrigue ahead of this massive SEC clash.
