On Saturday evening, the LSU football program started the Lane Kiffin era off with a bang by eviscerating the Clemson Tigers by a score of 51-10. Although they committed a turnover on the first play from scrimmage in this one, LSU quickly shook off that miscue and dominated the proceedings from that point forward.
This game was delayed by multiple hours due to inclement weather in the Baton Rouge area, and once the teams finally took the field for pregame warmups, ESPN sports media personality Pat McAfee couldn’t help but recite some Meek Mill lyrics to celebrate as Lane Kiffin emerged in Tiger Stadium.

Indeed, Kiffin’s debut on the field in Baton Rouge had been a long time coming, with the head coach having left Ole Miss in controversial fashion to join the Tigers’ program last year, giving up on the chance to coach the Rebels during their playoff run as a result.
Meanwhile, LSU sure looked like a national championship contender with their performance on Saturday, although how much of that was their own doing, and how much can be attributed to the severe regression of Dabo Swinney’s Clemson program, is certainly a fair question to ask.
Overall, Kiffin is looking to secure his first national championship this year in Baton Rouge, and the team sure looked up to the task on Saturday, with quarterback Sam Leavitt shaking off his first-play interception to torch the Clemson defense throughout the rest of the evening.
In any case, the Tigers will have a tune-up game next week at home against Louisiana Tech before hitting the road to take on Ole Miss in what is sure to be a raucous environment in Oxford less than two weeks from now.
