Sam Leavitt filled up the stat sheet as he was active throughout the No. 11 LSU Tigers’ 51-10 blowout win over the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night.
LSU is undergoing a new era in its program history. They replaced Brian Kelly with the likes of Lane Kiffin, landing him from the Ole Miss Rebels in controversial fashion. They look to make a serious case for the College Football Playoff, which Kiffin has proven his capability of doing so in his last campaign with Ole Miss.
Kiffin’s first challenge with LSU was taking on Dabo Swinney and Clemson, a tough opponent from the ACC. He counted on Leavitt to lead the offense as the starting quarterback, but initially had a slow start after throwing an interception.

Leavitt bounced back in dominant fashion. He finished with 16 out of 28 completions for 230 yards and one touchdown and one interception. He also racked up the numbers in the run game, attempting 12 rushes for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Sam Leavitt and the LSU Tigers kicked off the Lane Kiffin era in style, blowing out Clemson in convincing fashion throughout the season opener at home.
LSU were the aggressive Tigers side throughout the entire first half. They boasted a 31-3 lead at halftime, a deficit that Clemson never recovered from during the second half of the matchup.
Dilin Jones shined in the run game alongside Leavitt. He finished with a team-high 28 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns, identical to his quarterback teammate.
The receivers enjoyed a strong night as well. Winston Watkins Jr. caught seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown, Phillip Wright III made three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Trey’Dez Green recorded three receptions for 58 yards.
Following this matchup, LSU will prepare for its next matchup in Week 2. They remain at home when they host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
