LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier reaggravated his torso injury during practice, according to interim head coach Frank Wilson.

Nussmeier’s injury status has been a point of discussion for much of the LSU season, though we’ve never had complete clarity on the specifics or Nussmeier’s status. Nussmeier’s throws lacked their usual zip early in the year and former head coach Brian Kelly eventually provided more details, saying Nussmeier suffered an abdominal injury during fall camp.

Nussmeier looked better coming out of LSU’s first bye, but he’s never looked 100% in 2025, especially as he takes a beating behind LSU’s struggling offensive line.

Despite the aggravation, Wilson said Nussmeier will be listed as probable for LSU’s Week 12 contest vs. Arkansas.

Even if Nussmeier can go, LSU is expected to use two quarterbacks. LSU benched Nussmeier in favor of Michael Van Buren vs. Alabama, and Wilson said LSU will take advantage of both skill sets.

If Nussmeier can’t go, LSU feels comfortable with Van Buren running the offense.

Nussmeier’s 2025, much like the LSU season, has not gone to plan. Nussmeier began the year as a Heisman hopeful, but that narrative quickly faded as the LSU offense struggled. The unit ranks 103rd in success rate and 93rd in PPA/play.
