BATON ROUGE — LSU football senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has officially been ruled out versus Arkansas on Saturday (11:45 a.m. CT, SEC Network).
As late as Friday night, Nussmeier was listed as “questionable” to play inside Tiger Stadium in LSU’s final Southeastern Conference home game of the 2025 season as he’s battling an abdominal injury he reaggravated in practice Thursday. The LSU quarterback is listed as “out” on LSU’s final injury report released before kickoff against the Razorbacks.
Nussmeier sitting means sophomore Michael Van Buren will get his first start this year. Van Buren is no stranger to starting SEC games as he started eight last season as a freshman at Mississippi State.
Van Buren transferred to LSU this past offseason to help bolster a thin quarterback room where there wasn’t any experience behind Nussmeier on the roster.
Last season with the Bulldogs, Van Buren threw for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns along with seven interceptions. He led Mississippi State to a 1-7 record in his eight starts.
Junior star linebacker Whit Weeks is also out for LSU (5-4, 2-4 SEC) on Saturday. Arkansas marks the fourth straight game Weeks has missed since suffering a bone bruise on his ankle against South Carolina on October 11.
Wide receiver Nic Anderson hurt his knee last weekend at Alabama and will not play today. Sophomore defensive tackle Ahmad Breaux, left tackle Tyree Adams and defensive end Gabriel Reliford are also out for the Arkansas game.
