LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier struggled against Alabama Saturday night, and it led to his benching in favor of sophomore Michael Van Buren.
Whether Nussmeier or Van Buren will start next week against Arkansas, only time will tell. But in the meantime, here’s Nussmeier’s stats against the Crimson Tide:

Despite accurate throws and his third straight game with no interceptions, Nussmeier struggled overall against Alabama, passing for just 121 yards and no touchdowns, his fewest passing yards since becoming the starter and his first game without a touchdown pass since playing Arkansas in 2024.

Nussmeier’s shutout broke a streak of 14 consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass. It’s also notable that Nussmeier has since lost his SEC lead in completions and attempts to Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar.
