LSU football quarterback plans to enter transfer portal

LSU football quarterback Colin Hurley is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on January 2, per On3’s Pete Nakos.

Hurley, now a redshirt freshman, was a four-star recruit, ranked 22nd at his position in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Many fans had high hopes for Hurley, as he was one of the youngest players ever to enroll and play football with the Tigers, arriving on campus at 16 years old. It was assumed that the extra years of development at the college level might give him an edge over other quarterbacks who waited to attend school until later in their careers.

Now 18, Hurley is moving on to start fresh somewhere else.

Hurley’s decision to leave isn’t much of a surprise. He took a leave of absence from the team’s practices and games around midseason, leaving either Ju’Juan Johnson or Emile Picarella to take the reins if Michael Van Buren went down during one of his starts.

LSU is expected to target several top quarterbacks in the upcoming transfer portal. If they land one, leaving Van Buren as his backup, Hurley would likely be entering his third season in Baton Rouge as the third-string quarterback. Now, he’ll have the chance to compete for the starting job elsewhere.
