The Lane Kiffin era is off and running for LSU football. The Tigers just inked the best transfer portal class in the nation and have a roster good enough to compete for the College Football Playoff in Kiffin's first year.

With the portal in the rearview, attention turns to the 2027 high school recruits. Kiffin and staff held LSU's 2026 high school class together, despite only being on the job for a few days. The majority of signees were holdovers from the previous class, despite a few late flips. The next class will firmly belong to Kiffin with the staff having a complete cycle to shape the group.

LSU finished No. 11 in Rivals' 2026 recruiting rankings, an impressive finish for a transition class. LSU is well-positioned to finish top 10 next cycle. As usual, that's the expectation and that's why Kiffin took this job.'

Here are five can't-miss prospects LSU must land for a chance at the No. 1 overall class.

5. Jayden Miles, four-star, running back

LSU doesn't have to travel far to find Miles, who plays high school football at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, Miles is the No. 13 running back in the class and a top 10 player in the state of Louisiana.

LSU did not sign a high school running back in the 2026 class, making the position a priority in 2027. There are a few talented ones in the state of Louisiana and LSU will take a look nationally, too, but Miles is too good of a player for LSU to let leave the backyard. Former LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson, now at Ole Miss, will keep the Rebels in this race. Miles will be a coveted prospect across the SEC.

4. Caden Moss, five-star, offensive tackle

Moss is a five-star tackle out of Mississippi. Moss was on Kiffin's radar when Kiffin was Ole Miss's head coach. Now at LSU, Moss is likely near the top of the 2027 wishlist. Ole Miss is still a strong candidate, given that offensive line coach John Garrison didn't follow Kiffin to LSU. LSU did, however, land James Cregg, who worked as an offensive line analyst with the Rebels.

LSU won't just have to battle Ole Miss for Moss's service. He's a five-star tackle sure to garner the attention of the nation's top schools. Moss's proximity to LSU, paired with his famalirty to LSU's staff, should keep LSU in the race.

3. Ahmad Hudson, four-star, tight end

Hudson has been one of LSU's top targets since the Tigers began recruiting the 2027 class. The five-star tight end from Ruston, Louisiana, is a spectacular talent. He's the No. 1-ranked tight end in his class and the No. 3 player in Louisiana. Hudson is a star on the basketball court, too, ranking as a top-50 player nationally.

He's not quite as tall as current LSU tight end Trey'Dez Green, but he fits the archetype. New LSU tight ends coach Joe Cox already checked in on Hudson, making a stop in Ruston last week. Green will likely be off to the NFL after 2026, leaving a void in LSU's tight end room. Hudson has the tools to fill it.

2. Zyron Forstall, five-star, defensive end

Forstall was a New Orleans product before transferring to IMG Academy in Florida. In a way, he remains a Louisiana recruit, though LSU has had mixed luck with Louisiana recruits who left for IMG. Rivals Industry Rankings slot Forstall as the No. 1 EDGE in the 2027 class. Louisiana doesn't produce five-star defensive ends every year, but when it does, LSU can't afford to miss.

Several of the nation's top programs are battling for Forstall and LSU has yet to gain momentum, but the Tigers are in the race. Despite LSU making a change at head coach, much of the defensive staff remained the same. That should help LSU stay within striking distance of schools like USC and Texas A&M, who have been recruiting Forstall hard.

1. Easton Royal, five-star, wide receiver

Royal is the only player on this list already committed to a school — the talented receiver from New Orleans committed to Texas last year, turning down the in-state Tigers. The uncertainty with LSU's coaching staff allowed the Longhorns to swoop in and earn Royal's commitment. But there's a long way to go before signing day and LSU won't take its foot off the gas.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin visited Royal last week. It will take some time for Royal to get acquainted with LSU's new staff, but his proximity to campus should make that easier. LSU has a deep tradition with talented Louisiana wideouts and the Tigers don't want to see that fade here.
