LSU transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt has already begun to gain some steam in his Heisman Trophy chances for next season. We checked in on the odds Vegas is giving Leavitt last week, and now we’ve gotten an inside look at what some of the media believes.

The Athletic recently polled 28 of its college football writers and editors, asking them to make predictions about what might take place in the sport next season. This poll included a prediction for who will win the Heisman Trophy next season, and Leavitt made the cut.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t among the top vote-getters, as he was joined by Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney, who also earned only one. Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith led the way with 11 votes, followed by Texas’ Arch Manning, who earned four.

This is actually a step down from the odds Vegas gave Leavitt. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Tigers’ new signal-caller is tied for fourth-best odds, alongside Smith, Julian Sayin, Dante Moore and Gunner Stockton.

Although it may be disappointing to see Leavitt lower on both lists, it should be viewed as a positive. He’s joining a brand-new offensive system, working with wide receivers he’s never thrown to before, and doing so at a brand-new school. Compared with players like Manning and Carr, Leavitt faces a much more challenging path to success in 2026, yet he’s already garnered significant belief from the college football world.
