LSU football interim head coach Frank Wilson saw his time with the Tigers come to a close on Saturday night. Wilson and LSU fell to Houston in the Texas Bowl and now, Wilson is off to Ole Miss.

New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin and Wilson couldn’t work out a way for Wilson to remain at LSU with Kiffin bringing his own RBs coach. Ole Miss saw the opportunity and swooped in to hire Wilson.

Wilson’s LSU fate had been clear for a few weeks. As days passed, it was clear Wilson would not be on Kiffin’s LSU staff. Despite Wilson preparing to leave for an SEC rival, he wanted to finish what he started with LSU.

“Very proud to get this team to the finish line,” Wilson said, “and when we’re in the midst of the transition, and asked about coaching in this game, I said to an administrator, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna finish with my boys. I’ll burn this building down if you don’t let me finish.'”

Few men are bigger figures in Louisiana football than Wilson. He was born in New Orleans and played college football at McNeese State. He rose to prominence as a high school coach in New Orleans before jumping to the college ranks. Wilson was on Les Miles’ LSU staff from 2010-15 and was one of Brian Kelly’s first hires in 2021.
