LSU football coach Lane Kiffin has certainly caused a lot of uproar in the world of college football. Not only did Kiffin leave Ole Miss last year under controversial circumstances, but he is also bringing former NFL players back to college football. As this situation unfolds, Kiffin is defending himself.
“Sometimes the difference between the hero and the villain isn’t very far apart..A lot of times people want you to apologize when you’re chasing greatness..,” Kiffin said, per The Pat McAfee Show. “Our players and fans know that we’re doing what’s best for our program.”

Kiffin gave a reference to the legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan.
“He was a villain, then a hero, then a villain, then a hero again, and then a villain,” Kiffin added. “…It happens sometimes.”
Kiffin’s LSU team gets ready to kick off the season on September 5. The Tigers will battle Clemson. This upcoming season, Kiffin will also return to Ole Miss to play his former school on September 19.
Lane Kiffin is ready to get things rolling at LSU
Kiffin may be a villain to some, but there is no denying that he is a talented football coach. He turned Ole Miss into a SEC power, before he left the program during the 2025 season.
Kiffin wants to bring a national championship back to Baton Rouge. He takes over from Brian Kelly, who underachieved while leading the Tigers program.
The LSU head coach has a new quarterback for the 2026 season. That is Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt, who is coming off an injury. Kiffin says that Leavitt has been working hard to get back to full health.
“Sam Leavitt battled back from injury and he’s so competitive.. He’s focused on being great and he’s got a chip on his shoulder,” Kiffin said Tuesday on Pat McAfee’s show.
LSU football fans are certainly excited to see what the Tigers do moving forward.
