LSU football is now in the hands of Lane Kiffin, and the program is excited to have him as its head coach for the foreseeable future. Of course, nobody will forget the way that Kiffin found his way to LSU, and some would say that it was a dramatic exit from Ole Miss.

The one thing that Kiffin wanted to do before leaving Ole Miss was to coach them in the playoffs, but he knows there’s nothing he can do about it.

“Obviously, I wish the timing was different,” Kiffin said via Wilson Alexander of On3. “There was no way around it. Tried to do everything possible to still coach and, obviously, that was (athletic director Keith Carter’s) decision and understandable. Do I still wish that had happened? Yeah, I do. I wish that would have been allowed to happen. Maybe we would have won it all.”

As far as LSU, he knows that people will want to see instant success with the program, and there will also be comparisons between them and Ole Miss. At the end of the day, those results won’t show immediately.

“I know that this will show, for me, being the right decision,” Kiffin said. “It may not be this year because everybody’s going to want to compare the two places and everything like that.
It’ll show in Year 2, 3. It’s going to show that we have the same systems, we have all this stuff and we brought it here, and combined it with the branding of LSU and the ability to sign elite high school (players). That will show. It may not be next year, but this wasn’t a one-year decision.”
