The LSU football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to get underway in a month and a half. The Tigers are entering this year with big expectations after prying head coach Lane Kiffin away from the Ole Miss Rebels to take the same position in Baton Rouge.
Recently, Kiffin spoke on quarterback Sam Leavitt, the Arizona State transfer who is expected to be LSU’s starter this year.
“I kind of feel like there’s some Jaxson (Dart) in there,” Kiffin said, per Pete Thamel of ESPN. “He’s probably actually faster. But that’s the most similar that I’ve seen with him throwing with everything, just kind of working with him and watching him and trying to figure out like, ‘Okay, what are we going to look like and how are we going to design it?'”

Kiffin also stated that Leavitt is throwing down windmill dunks amid speculation on his return from a foot injury, which is certainly good news for the Tigers heading into this season.
Linebacker Whit Weeks also spoke on Leavitt’s accuracy as a passer.
“I’ve seen a lot of great quarterbacks in my time,” Weeks said. “My freshman year, Jayden (Daniels) was our quarterback, and Sam’s up there with all of them. I mean that dude, and I haven’t even seen him really take off yet. I’ve just seen him be throwing the football and that dude can spin it.”
LSU is coming off a frustrating last several years on the heels of their 2019 championship run, which went down as one of the most dominant single seasons in college football history. Kiffin is hoping to return the program to something resembling that epic run, although it will likely be a long process.
