Today was LSU’s and head coach Lane Kiffin’s moment at SEC Media Day, and like with the other teams around the conference, some great quotes are coming out about the respective teams. Obviously, when Kiffin is front and center speaking about the team and other topics, most of the college football world pays attention. After Kiffin’s time with the media, there have been many quotes circulating, but the one I wanted to focus on is about why QB Sam Leavitt was not chosen to follow Kiffin to SEC Media Day.
For the travel, Kiffin and the staff chose new LB TJ Dottery, TE Treydez Green, and Whit Weeks. Some people were confused about why, if LSU was choosing new players, QB Sam Leavitt wasn’t chosen. He is the new starting QB in Baton Rouge and has been given the keys to the offense, so picking him for media day would have been a move to emphasize that.
Well, according to Kiffin, there was actually a good reason why Leavitt wasn’t chosen:
We may not know if there were other reasons why Leavitt was not chosen, but his leading the team-led practice seems like the right one.
Kiffin emphasized that Leavitt is going to be a leader of this team, but the actions of leading the team during practice is a perfect example of actions speaking louder than words.
