LSU football interim head coach Frank Wilson will remain in his role for LSU's bowl game vs. Houston, but his future on new head coach Lane Kiffin's staff remains unclear.
Wilson met with the media on Tuesday and was asked if he had gained any clarity on his future role with the program. Wilson said he isn't worried about that right now.
"We've had conversations. For me and for Coach Kiffin, let's play this game on the 27th, and we'll go into those details later. We just want to finish what we started with this football team, with the team of 2025, give them our undivided attention before transition happens. And so until then, nothing will necessarily happen in that regard. There'll be opportunity there. Where that lies, I'm not sure. But the priority is our current football team," Wilson said.
Kiffin is expected to overhaul the offensive staff and bring several of his offensive assistants from Ole Miss. Running backs coach Kevin Smith was not among the Rebels coaches who joined Kiffin in Baton Rouge, but that doesn't mean Smith isn't a part of Kiffin's plans.
Wilson is in his second stint on LSU's staff. Earlier in his career, he worked under Les Miles at LSU. Wilson rose to prominence as a high school coach in Louisiana and is a recruiting ace within the state. He's been a valuable piece of LSU's staff over the years.
