Lane Kiffin was hired by the LSU Tigers on Sunday to become the program’s new head coach. This came after a whirlwind of rumors surrounding where he would end up after spending the past six seasons with the Ole Miss Rebels.
One of Kiffin’s first jobs after replacing LSU’s former head coach Brian Kelly, who was fired in October, is keeping together one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
Under Kelly, the Tigers accumulated the 11th-ranked class in the Rivals 2026 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. This class, which is made up of 15 total commits, includes a pair of five-stars and nine four-star recruits.
The top two recruits in LSU’s class are five-star defensive linemen Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. Brown, a 6-foot-4, 285-pound lineman from University Lab in Erwinville, Louisiana, is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2026 class, according to Rivals. He has been committed to LSU since July 10.
Anderson, who is from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, is 6-foot-3.5 and 350 pounds. He is the nation’s 24th overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the country, per Rivals.
On Tuesday, one day before college football‘s early signing period begins, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman announced some concerning news about the pair of top prospects.
“NEWS: Five-star LSU DL commits Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson are not expected to sign during the Early Signing Period, their agents tell @Rivals,” Spiegelman wrote in an X post.

The early signing period lasts from Wednesday to Friday this week. While neither of the five-star recruits are expected to sign during this time, their agents said that “they’re still committed,” according to Spiegelman.
While their future is in question, losing these two recruits, including the top-ranked prospect in the country, would be a huge loss for Kiffin early in his LSU tenure.
