After Lane Kiffin was hired to take over the LSU Tigers football program, everyone was speculating on what his staff would look like. Six months later and there are gaps being filled. In one of the most underrated moves since the NIL era was established, Kiffin has called upon Ed Orgeron to join him in Baton Rouge.
Wow. There's not much you can say except this was a power move all the way around. Orgeron, who's a better recruiter than a coach, will be hitting the road to pull in talent with money now in the open and on the table. Go back to Eddy O's comments about recruiting players from his head coaching stint at LSU.
“Back then, we used to walk through the back door with the cash, now we just gotta walk through the front door with the cash,” Orgeron told Bussin' with the Boys.

If his words are any indication of what's about to happen, LSU has no room for excuses or adjustment periods. With over $40 million spent on the roster (and more coming), Orgeron is going to be busy putting it all together. Now, he'll likely get his feet wet with all the new regulations and how they relate to recruiting before exiting Baton Rouge for another head coaching job. However, if Orgeron is quietly "hanging it up" and sees this as a move into a college football front office, the SEC should be put on notice.
The barrel-chested Cajun knows the lay of the land and is about to tap into every resource to get another national championship. Except this time, Kiffin will be lead with Orgeron as the supporting co-star.
It also underscores how far Orgeron has come over the course of his career. To take a backseat with a top program and not restructure under a mid-major shows growth. Make no mistake about it. This was meticulously done by Kiffin, and if LSU wins a title in the next two years, the hire of Orgeron will be a turning point in his tenure.

Just when we all thought it would take another three years for college football rosters to surpass the $50 million mark, LSU with Orgeron on the recruiting trail might approach $60 million in 2027. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
As it turns out, the blessing of being fired and a second stint might lead him to his true calling in Baton Rouge. Just how much he’s willing to change while still staying true to his vision of football while sharing ideas with Kiffin will be the balancing act. It's only a matter of time before we see LSU as a power dynasty like Nick Saban built at Alabama. That's what Kiffin is preparing to do with the program.
