LSU Tigers Add Experienced Assistant Coach to Staff in Unknown Role

The LSU Tigers are still not done tinkering with their coaching staff as they have brought in longtime assistant Kevin Sherrer in an unannounced role on Tuesday night, per Locked On LSU's Matt Moscona. 

While the role has not yet been announced, it is fair to assume that it will be somewhere on the defensive side of the ball. Sherrer was most recently the defensive coordinator for the Birmingham Stallions last season.

The 53-year-old played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide in the mid-90s and has been in coaching ever since. He has made stops in college, high school, the UFL and the NFL. He has been a graduate assistant, defensive coordinator, special team coordinator, inside linebackers coach, outside linebackers coach and director of player development within the SEC alone.

Sherrer won't carry a heavyweight title like DC or even a position coach, but he is clearly a valuable mind to have around the building. Blake Baker has done a great job of turning the defensive side of the ball around in Baton Rouge, but the job isn't done yet.

The coach won back-to-back National Championships under Nick Sabam with the Crimson Tide in 2011 and 2012 as the director of player development. He's held a lot of different job titles and will be able to help out no matter what Kiffin has in store.

LSU has a lot of experience in the building and are creating new ways to get even more. They have already brought Ed Orgeron back as a "Special Assistant to Recruiting and Defense." Now they continue to add on with Sherrer.
