The LSU Tigers have most of their coaching positions filled for Lane Kiffin's staff, but one major remaining opening is for the defensive line coach position. A few names have come and gone, but none have stuck.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz now reports that South Carolina Gamecocks coach Sterling Lucas has become "a name to watch" for that job. It's slightly different than the job that he holds for the Gamecocks, but he should be plenty qualified.

Lucas is currently the defensive run game coordinator, defensive ends and outside linebackers coach for South Carolina. This is his fifth-year on the staff, but first in the role of defensive run game coordinator. Despite their 4-8 record, the Gamecocks had the No. 47 run defense in the nation at 136 yards per game and a solid 3.77 yards per attempt.

He was the lead recruiter for five-star talents Dylan Stewart and Nyck Harbor, two elite high school talents. Stewart has developed into one of the best pass-rushers in the country and Harbor was a top target for the Tigers that Lucas lured away.

Before his time in South Carolina, Lucas was an assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars and spent five years with the Baltimore Ravens. He's a rising young talent and seems like a great fit for LSU.

Tigers defensive legend Kyle Williams coached the defensive line last year to feel out how he liked it, but is stepping away from the team and is not expected to pursue coaching any further.

Syracuse Orange co-defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson was an old favorite for the job, but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. Now the focus shifts to Lucas.
