LSU Tigers Interim Coach Frank Wilson First Win At Tiger Stadium Meant 'Everything'

The LSU Tigers took down the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon in a win that meant a lot more than most wins this late in the season with an interim head coach.

This ended the three-game losing streak and prevented things from spiraling out of control. It showcased that this team was still able to fight and Michael Van Buren Jr. could handle the quarterback duties for the rest of the year, if he must.

More so than what it means for this season, though, it gave Frank Wilson his first win as the leader of the Tigers and even secured that he'll get an extra game at the helm as they became bowl eligible.

Wilson is LSU encapsulated into one person. He's a New Orleans native. A Louisiana football staple. He has coached high school, played at Nicholls, and has proven himself to be a world-class recruiter with the Tigers over nine years, spanning two stints.

He has a 27-41 overall record as a college head coach and has never won a bowl game. This was far more than just a game to him. It was the chance to prove to himself and to the world that he can win games. A culmination of a career to this point.

The 52-year-old still has a long time to go in the world of college football, but this was as big a moment as one could imagine. It was not lost on Wilson.

While drenched with Gatorade that was poured on him by his players, he shared a very nice moment with his family on the field.

The Advocate (@theadvocatebr) on XThe Advocate (@theadvocatebr) on XLSU's Frank Wilson earned his first win as interim head coach Saturday.

He had an emotional moment with family after the game.

"It means everything to myself and to our staff," said an emotional Wilson to the media after the game. "[I told our staff] when we go into that locker room, you love all these babies. You let them know, 'I appreciate you for doing what was asked of you.' And it just culminated in this day for our staff and for our players."

Wilson is beloved by the players, and it's not hard to see why. LSU running back Caden Durham even interrupted the press conference to come in and hug the interim coach.

This was a much-needed day of positivity for the program when they didn't really have to worry about the outside noise and coaching search, instead just celebrating a win together and celebrating a coach who has given his all to the program for years.
