The LSU Tigers have embraced a new identity this offseason, becoming the villains of college football, and it looks like some campus legends love this new look as long as it leads to results.

Former Tigers star Justin Jefferson, who attended the first weekend's game against the Clemson Tigers, spoke to Kay Adams on Friday about this new identity.

"Not mad at it, honestly. That's Lane, though. You know, anybody that knows Lane and knows how he carries himself, he is the villain. And that's how he's always been. I feel like it's about time. We're always the good guys. We're always the guys that does everything wright. I feel like it's time for the bad guys to come out and show the guys what's really up," said Jefferson.

This new turn into becoming the heels of the sport began as soon as LSU poached head coach Lane Kiffin away from the Ole Miss Rebels in the midst of their best season in school history and right before a College Football Playoff run.

It was certainly cut throat, but a necessary evil in the modern world of college football. The Tigers needed to secure their next coach as early as possible and that just so happened to interfere with the timelines. While unfortunate, the school certainly shouldn't regret doing so as they are now set up with one of the most well-respected offensive minds in college football.

Based on how people talk about Kiffin, though, that's about where the respect stops. Social media has been ablaze since the hire, and comments have only gotten more out of pocket since the beginning of this Zxavian Harris and Dae'Quan Wright saga.

Kiffin and the school have never backed down, though. They've gone as far as to put up a sign in the welcome area of the football operations building that reads: "If you want to win at the highest level, you have to become a villain in someone else's story."

They are certainly the villains in Clemson's story, following the 51-10 beatdown that Jefferson was witness to last week. The wide receiver has been around through the highs and lows of LSU football, from the careers of his older brothers to his own on the 2019 championship team. He believes that this team has the potential to make some noise as well.

"They have a chance to [win a National Championship]. Obviously, it's the first time for the new quarterback, new receivers, pretty much a new defense. So I mean, it's the first time these guys are really coming together and building that team chemistry and team bond. They put up 50 in the first showcase. It's only going to get better and better throughout the year as it goes on," said the Minnesota Vikings receiver.

Obviously, no one is expecting this offense or team to be as dominant as the 2019 team was, but they have the makings of being one of the program's most talented teams. Sam Leavitt and this offense were cruising, with Dilin Jones a breakout star at running back. Blake Baker's defense looks as fast and dangerous as ever.
