The LSU Tigers have done well recruiting in the 2027 class and cycle, all things considered.
The LSU Tigers only have five players committed to their 2027 recruiting class. That's no reason to panic, as there's still a long way to go. However, the teams at the top of the class rankings have much more. And LSU still has a ton of needs to address.
On Monday, LSU appeared to lose a recruiting battle to another SEC school, just after losing out on elite four-star wide receiver Miguel Whitley to Ole Miss. This time, it was elite four-star running back Nigel Newkirk. The 6'0, 190-pound running back from Georgia chose Bama over Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, and Georgia Tech, with the schools finishing in that order.
Only two schools were visited by Newkirk more than once: Bama, with four, and Georgia Tech, with two. LSU visited just once, and maybe that’s why they couldn’t land him. Then again, Bama has been known for producing elite running backs. LSU hasn't really done that in some time.
Newkirk is the No. 21 player at his position. He's the No. 29 player in Georgia. The Tigers definitely missed out on a good running back prospect, but there will be plenty more opportunities.
LSU Tigers have interest in other running backs for the 2027 recruiting class
The Tigers have sent out nine total offers to 2027 running backs. Four of those have already committed to a school, but that doesn't mean they won't decommit or flip on National Signing Day. They will also be sending more offers.
Right now, LSU is projected to land 2027 running back Jayden Miles. He's a 6'2, 200-pounder from the Baton Rouge area, so that certainly helps. The second school projected to fight with LSU for Miles is Kentucky. Miles is a four-star and the No. 13 player in the state, No. 21 player at his position. The Tigers need to keep pushing for him.
