The LSU Tigers have wrapped their first spring camp under Lane Kiffin, providing the best look at what to expect to see on the field this football season.
Rounding up media reports, player interviews and press conferences, here's an updated guess at what the offensive depth chart would look like if the season started right now:
Quarterback
QB1 – Sam LeavittQB2 – Husan LongstreetQB3 – Landen Clark
Though Leavitt missed a lot of spring due to planned surgery, this job was never really in doubt. He is an NFL hopeful and will lead the offense this year, with the tentative plans to hand the keys to Longstreet next season.
Running Back
RB1 – Harlem BerryRB2 – Caden DurhamRB3 – Dilin JonesFurther Depth – Stacey Gage, Raycine Guillory, Rod Gainey
Berry is widely expected to be the starter this season based on his potential as a former five-star. Durham is penciled in as the backup because he's been around for a while and has been productive in Baton Rouge before.
By all accounts, though, Jones has been the favorite running back of the staff. He's a redshirt sophomore who battled for snaps with the Wisconsin Badgers. He has done all the little stuff that coaches love, and was a four-star out of high school. He could certainly work his way up the depth chart quickly.
Wide Receiver
WR1 – Winston Watkins Jr.WR2 – Jayce BrownWR3 – Jackson HarrisWR4 – Tre WilsonFurther Depth – Phillip Wright, Roman Mothershed, Malik Elzy, Tyree Holloway, Corey Barber, Jabari Mack, Brayden Allen
There seems to be a little bit of disagreement on who the top of the top of this room is right now, but these are the four names who get mentioned the most. There was a massive change at wide receiver this past offseason, and it's hard not to get excited about any combination of these explosive wideouts.
Tight End
TE1 – Trey'Dez GreenTE2 – Malachi ThomasTE3 – Zach GraceFurther Depth – JD LaFleur, JC Anderson
Even with Green, the Tigers needed to look to Bauer Sharp for 24 catches last season. Having a good backup is crucial in this offense, and Sharp's inconsistent play bit them at times. Thomas looks to be on track to be a much more reliable backup option, making some plays this spring.
Offensive Tackle
LT1 – Jordan SeatonRT1 – Weston DavisTackle Depth – Darrin Strey, Sean Thompkins, Ja'Kolby Jones
Congrats to Davis for apparently beating out the competition and remaining a starter throughout the chaos of the last year. Davis certainly wasn't perfect as a sophomore, but he was still very young and improved as the year went on. The talent is there, so it's not shocking to still see him around. Seaton was guaranteed the job at the time of signing.
Offensive Guard
LG1 – Bo BordelonRG1 – Aliou BahGuard Depth – Devin Harper, Solomon Thomas, Ja'Quan Sprinkle, Brett Bordelon
After playing in fewer than 200 snaps in total on the line since signing in 2022, redshirt senior Bordelon looks to have won the starting job on the left. A big win for the development of a Louisiana-born player. Bah started on the right side for two years with the Maryland Terrapins. At worst, he provides a ton of experience.
Center
C1 – Braelin MooreCenter Depth – William Satterwhite
Moore could have gone to the NFL draft, but decided to come back for one more year. He was the best part of the offensive line last season, so there is zero issue with him coming back and getting the job. LSU did a better job of planning for a backup, though, as Satterwhite could be a starter at a lot of schools around the country.
