Malik Howard details commitment to Tennessee, trust in coaching staff

2027 Tennessee football commit Malik Howard enters his senior season at Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
At KFOA media day on Friday, the four-star prospect discussed why he committed to Tennessee with Vols Wire.
“It just came down to the fact that I could trust this coaching staff more than I could trust the other coaching staffs,” Howard said. “I want to play for them and win championships together.”
Howard committed to the Vols over Notre Dame, Oregon and Alabama.
He also received Power Four scholarship offers from Kentucky, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Duke, Maryland, Purdue, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Florida, Syracuse, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado, Auburn, LSU, Northwestern and West Virginia.
Kentucky was the first school to offer Howard a scholarship on May 23, 2024. Tennessee offered him on June 5, 2024.
Howard totaled 53 receptions for 778 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior in 2025. The 2027 prospect said he is glad his recruiting process is over.
“We have some unfinished business here,” Howard said. “We want to win state, and if we play our game, I don’t think there’s a 6A team that can beat us.”
Oak Ridge had a 9-2 record in 2025 and lost their final two games to Maryville High School (Maryville, Tennessee) and Science Hill High School (Johnson City, Tennessee).
