Marcel Reed Looks Ready to Take Texas A&M Offense to Another Level

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed isn’t just having a good preseason camp. He’s starting to look like a quarterback ready to make the jump from dangerous athlete to complete SEC problem.

Through the Aggies’ first six preseason practices, Reed has yet to throw an interception or lose a fumble.

His accuracy has reportedly been sharp, his touch has improved and, perhaps most importantly, he appears increasingly comfortable running Texas A&M’s offense under new coordinator Holmon Wiggins.

That matters because Reed’s 2025 numbers were already impressive.

In his first full season as the starter, Reed produced 3,600 total yards and 31 touchdowns, including 3,169 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Those are numbers most programs would gladly take.

But there was an obvious flaw.

Against top-35 defenses, Reed threw only six touchdown passes against eight interceptions.

Better defenses were able to confuse him with more sophisticated zone coverages and force mistakes that didn’t show up as often against weaker competition.

That’s the next hurdle.

If Reed can eliminate those giveaways while maintaining the explosive ability that made him one of the SEC’s most dangerous quarterbacks last season, Texas A&M’s offense could become considerably tougher to defend.

The promotion of Wiggins from wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator adds another fascinating element.

Former OC Collin Klein left for the Kansas State head coaching job, giving Wiggins his first opportunity to take full control of the Aggies’ offense.

His biggest advantage might be the collection of weapons surrounding Reed.

Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton, a massive target at 6-foot-4, joins a receiver room already featuring Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey.

Bussey might be the wild card.

After spending his first two seasons developing at wide receiver, the explosive former five-star athlete has reportedly been one of the biggest standouts of preseason camp.

His speed and open-field ability were never in question. Now his understanding of the position appears to be catching up with his physical talent.

That could be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Texas A&M already knows Reed can create explosive plays. The question entering 2026 was whether he could become more efficient, protect the football and consistently diagnose the SEC’s best defenses.

So far, the answer coming out of College Station is encouraging.

If the turnover-free version of Marcel Reed survives once the real games begin, Texas A&M may have something much more dangerous than a talented quarterback.

It may finally have a polished one.
