Marcus Freeman has achieved plenty of success as head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While the wins have been enjoyable, there are aspects of being a coach that makes the experience worth it to him.

Freeman has been the head coach since 2021, going through his sixth season at the helm for the Fighting Irish. He shines as one of the best coaches in the country, looking to get the program back to the national championship game after last appearing in 2024.

Notre Dame is off to an incredible start, boasting a perfect 6-0 record midway through the season. Freeman made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Friday, expressing what he enjoys most about being a head coach.

“There’s very few things that bring me more joy than making an impact on the young people you get the chance to be around every day, right? And that’s where the fun happens when you see a young person practice better because of something maybe you did or as coaches did. When you see these young guys have success, when you see them go to the NFL, when you see like that’s the fun, right?” Freeman said.

“And that’s the greatest joy of this position is that you get a chance to impact young people every day, and that’s where I get my fulfillment. It has nothing to do with wins. It does have to do with wins because when you see their face, when you see those guys enjoying the fruits of victory, that that brings a lot of joy,” Freeman said.
