Being a leader matters, and for Notre Dame football, it very much looks like they have one of the best in college football.

Actually, according to The Athletic (subscription required), Freeman is one of the top leaders in all of sports. In a recent poll they conducted of over 115 sports figures, each of them nominating five of their personal best. The picks consisted of players, coaches and executives, which puts even more weight on these rankings.

Freeman came in No. 20, the first college football head coach named, ahead of megastars like LA Laker LeBron James and New York Yankee Aaron Judge. There were only two other college coaches named with one other receiving multiple votes.

Former women’s basketball coach Muffet McGraw was one of the voters, as she noted “he puts players first, focusing on developing the whole person rather than just the athlete.”

This goes to show that Notre Dame has one of the best in the sport, and you could argue in all of sports. Freeman represents the university like he’s alum, and it’s clear the Irish have a great on leading their program.
