Marcus Freeman Predicted To Leave Notre Dame For NFL Job

The rumors surrounding Marcus Freeman's future at Notre Dame just keep getting louder.

Freeman, 39, has quickly emerged as an attractive candidate for NFL teams with head-coaching vacancies. Although he doesn't have any coaching experience at the pro level, what he's done at Notre Dame can't be ignored. Replacing Brian Kelly in 2022 seemed like a really tough task, and yet, he managed to take the program to the national championship game two seasons later.

Earlier this month, Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua admit that NFL teams will probably show interest in Freeman this upcoming offseason. It's his job to make sure his coach doesn't leave South Bend.

“Everybody has eyes on Marcus,” Bevacqua said, via ESPN. “College has eyes on Marcus; NFL has eyes on Marcus. I bet Hollywood has eyes on Marcus. … He’s the absolute best coach in the country for Notre Dame, full stop, one of the greatest college coaches in the country.”

Freeman to New York?

When the New York Giants fired Brian Daboll in November, Freeman was mentioned as a candidate for the job. Dianna Russini of The Athletic later reported that Freeman will "garner interest" from pro teams this January.

ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan only added more fuel to the fire this Tuesday by predicting that Freeman will be the next head coach of the G-Men.

"I'm going out on a limb here," Raanan said. "Here's what you're hearing when talking to people – he [Freeman] is going to be part of the mix."

Just two weeks ago, SportsBetting.ag had Freeman as the overwhelming favorite (-200) to become the next head coach of the Giants.

At this point, we can't ignore all the signs pointing to Freeman leaving Notre Dame.
