The Miami Hurricanes returned to being one of the top programs in college football in 2025. The Hurricanes finished the season with a record of 13-3 and made their first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
In the College Football Playoff (CFP), the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Ole Miss Rebels before ultimately losing in the national championship game to the Indiana Hoosiers. Despite this impressive season, which did not culminate in a championship, head coach Mario Cristobal will continue to focus on recruiting to help the Hurricanes reclaim their place at the top for the first time in two decades.
The Hurricanes received significant news as Rivals recruiting expert Chad Simmons predicts that four-star wide receiver Nick Lennear from the 2027 recruiting class will commit to the Hurricanes.
Lennear is ranked as a top 30 prospect in the Rivals composite rankings, with a peak position of No. 16 according to 247Sports. If he maintains this ranking, he is likely to receive a fifth star. At this time, the Miami native has a 98.6% chance of signing with the Hurricanes, surpassing the USC Trojans and their head coach, Lincoln Riley.
If the prediction from Simmons becomes reality, it would represent another major recruiting victory for Cristobal and the Hurricanes. Landing Lennear would give Miami a potential future No. 1 receiving option and continue Cristobal’s emphasis on locking down elite talent from South Florida. Programs that consistently contend for championships often dominate recruiting within their home region, and securing a top local prospect like Lennear would reinforce Miami’s ability to keep premier players close to home.
The timing would also be significant following Miami’s breakthrough 2025 season. The Hurricanes’ run to the College Football Playoff elevated the program’s national profile. Strong recruiting momentum after a deep playoff run often determines whether a team can sustain success, and adding a highly ranked receiver would strengthen Miami’s future offensive firepower as it aims to remain among college football’s elite.
Looking ahead, the Hurricanes will continue building toward another playoff push while assembling one of the nation’s top recruiting classes. If Lennear ultimately commits, he could become one of the cornerstone players in Miami’s long-term plan as Cristobal works to bring the program its first national championship since 2001.
