The Jackson family is bringing a Joe Jackson docuseries to BLK Prime, with Marlon Jackson narrating and helping develop the project. The announcement arrives as audiences revisit Joe Jackson’s disputed legacy and his portrayal in “Michael”.
The Jacksons announced the series on Instagram under the title “The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend.” Their official post describes it as an original production developed in collaboration with Marlon and says it is coming soon exclusively to BLK Prime.
BLK Prime said the first season will contain eight episodes and carries a commitment for multiple seasons. The company said the production will examine Joe’s early years, personal struggles, ambition and management of his children’s careers.
“Our father’s life is replete with triumphs and challenges, and we firmly believe that this series will offer a distinctive and accurate portrayal of the man behind our family,” Marlon shared with Page Six. He described the project as a chance to share the father his family knew while acknowledging that Joe’s life included both triumphs and challenges.
Joe formed and managed the Jackson 5, guiding Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael from Gary, Indiana, to international success. The group’s first four singles reached No. 1, helping establish the family as one of popular music’s most successful dynasties. His management also shaped Michael’s early career and the family’s wider entertainment legacy.
His legacy remains contested. Several of his children, including Michael, accused him of physical and emotional abuse. Joe acknowledged using strict discipline but denied many of the allegations made against him.
Promotional materials frame the new BLK Prime series through Marlon’s perspective. BLK Prime describes Joe as a visionary who built the foundation for the family’s success, while Marlon says the production will offer a personal account of the man behind their public story.
The docuseries will also examine the Jackson 5’s relationship with Motown, the pressures surrounding the family’s rise and the bonds that carried them through those years, according to BLK Prime.
No premiere date has been announced. The company said additional information about pre-production and casting will be released in the coming months. The new BLK Prime series is expected to stream exclusively on the platform.
