Matt Campbell on how the Penn State football Blue-White Game will look

The format of the annual Penn State football spring football game has become more clear.
The Blue-White Game, scheduled for April 25 in Beaver Stadium, does not expect to be a two-hour-plus scrimmage fans have come to expect through the years, Matt Campbell said during his Tuesday press conference to begin spring practice.
Rather, it should be a mix of game action and drills.
“You’ll get some version of practice, and hopefully we can get some scrimmaging, where we get some live reps in practice, and be able to showcase that,” Campbell said.
“But what we won’t do is waste a day. What we will do is, I think it’s really important for us to be out there and make sure we do a great job of being there for our fans, and equally, being able to be with our fans. Because I think it’s really important.”
The spring “game day” routine will be modified, like it was on occasion under former head coach James Franklin, because of injuries. Campbell will be breaking in an overhauled roster with more than 50 new players and a new staff over the next month — and without full-health work from standouts like quarterback Rocco Becht, offensive lineman Anthony Donkoh, linebacker Tony Rojas and several others.
The Blue-White Game typically is the final of Penn State’s official 15 spring workouts. It serves as a reunion weekend and a player autograph opportunity for fans and should provide at least a glimpse into this uncertain 2026 season.
“I think it’s really important for us and how critical our fan base is to our football program that we get out and have an opportunity for our fans to be with us,” Campbell said. “But I think, equally, it’s critical for our players to be in that stadium and to feel what that fan base feels like and looks like and what Beaver Stadium looks like, replicating that environment to the best of our ability before we step in and play a game next fall.”
