This upcoming Penn State season means a lot for so many players, but it will be especially important for defensive end Max Granville. The redshirt sophomore is set to return to the field this week for the first time since the 2024 season, and the expectations are through the roof.

The new coaching staff, led by Matt Campbell, is “really excited” about what Granville can do, while the previous coaching staff was ready for him to take the next step before his injury last year.

Now, he’s finally ready to return to the field and show the talent that everyone in the building believes he has. Granville is a massive player, standing at 6-3 and weighing 242 pounds, while also being an athletic freak who excelled in track and field in high school.

Some pass rushers build proficiency as a speed rusher, while others have more success as a power rusher, but it seems like the Texas product has a chance to do both. His father played in the NFL, and his mother played college volleyball, so we know Granville has all the tools and talent to be great. Week 1 will go a long way toward showing just how much the Nittany Lions coaching staff has poured into him since he last saw the field.
