The actress has seen her fair share of public critique since she entered the public eye, from dating partners to career choices and even allegations that she bleached her skin.

Meagan Good can recall the exact moment she refused to let public scrutiny dictate her life.

During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” the actress and soon-to-be cast member of “Reasonable Doubt” opened up about a period years ago where fans accused her of bleaching her skin and the brunt of the criticism allowed her to have an awakening.

Back in 2019, Good met an unlicensed esthetician who believed she could help the actress with an anti-aging regimen. However, things did not go according to plan.

“I start using the product and I instantly see that I’m getting lighter,” she said. “I give it a few weeks and I look so pale and so crazy and I go and shoot this show in New York and … I just look white. I just look crazy As a Black woman, I would never do that to myself and it broke my heart to think that young Black girls would think that I did that or that I don’t like myself. Why would I do that all of a sudden at 39 years old? That’s crazy.”

As more and more photos of Good surfaced, fans began questioning her, saying she was engaging in self-hatred. Skin bleaching has various connotations within the Black community. While some use it for health reasons, others utilize skin bleaching techniques to appear lighter.

Unlike prior moments where she faced scrutiny, Good couldn’t shield herself from the drama.

“The backlash I was seeing … it was so humiliating,” she said. “In the past, when something is wrong, I’d be able to go, ‘Oh, well here’s what this is or this is not true and if you don’t like it, I don’t really care. At least you know the truth.’ I couldn’t do anything. I look crazy. I literally have to sit in this and accept that people think I did this to myself.”

Good admitted that she prayed and prayed about the situation and in that moment, her prayer turned into an answer.

“This is an answered prayer,” Good said. “You kept saying, ‘Lord, help me not care what people think. Lord help me not be so concerned with this.’ Now you don’t have a choice. You still have to live your life. You still have to have a quality of life. And if that’s what it is, are you going to be miserable and sad on the floor, or are you going to have the most joy in your life? Once I made the decision to move forward, that’s when my color started coming back.”

The personal breakthrough has been evident for the actress. Earlier this year, she celebrated a year of marriage to fellow actor Jonathan Majors, who has dealt with his own fair share of turbulence following his arrest and trial over the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend.

“The greatest love story I’ve ever known… You. Changed. My. Life. .. in every way I’ve ever dreamed ..and hoped for .. in ways I didn’t know were tangible,” her Instagram post started. “I love you. With every breath I take ..and then- whatever is next ; I will still love you eternally . I pray our spirits existence- exists alongside each other inside of God forever.” To cap it off, she signed it, “Happy Number 1 My Love of Life . ~Mrs Majors”
