Meet the transfers Rutgers football has added so far

Rutgers football has spent recent weeks infusing the roster with depth and talent, especially on defense, to bolster the roster heading into the 2026 season.

While the transfer portal entry window is officially closed, programs can still continue to add transfers who haven’t found a destination yet.

So far, though, it’s been a productive cycle for Greg Schiano and his coaching staff.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano watches his players in the first half of the NCAA football game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio.

Here’s a look at the transfers Rutgers has brought in to this point:

J’Dan Burnett, DE

Previous school: Tulsa

The 6-foot, 250-pound Burnett spent last season at Tulsa after four at Louisiana Tech. He had 28 tackles (9.5 for loss) and a team-high 6.5 sacks in 2025. Burnett visited Rutgers on Jan. 18 and cancelled visits to Iowa and Florida State in order to commit to Rutgers.

Clay Thevenin, RB

Previous school: Louisiana Tech

The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Thevenin provides depth at running back behind starter Antwan Raymond, especially after Rutgers lost Sam Brown and CJ Campbell Jr. to the portal. Thevenin, who has also previously spent two seasons at Navarro College in Texas,  rushed for 634 yards on 131 attempts (4.8 yards per carry) with eight touchdowns for the Bulldogs this past season. Thevenin also caught 33 passes for 269 yards, so he can be a weapon in the passing game.

Dylan Lonergan, QB

Previous school: Boston College

Lonergan’s addition will give the Scarlet Knights a true quarterback competition. He’ll compete with AJ Surace, Rutgers’ QB2 behind Athan Kaliakmanis last season, for the starting job. Lonergan spent the 2025 season with Boston College after two years at Alabama.

Rondo Porter, DT

Previous school: Appalachian State

Rutgers has bolstered its defensive line via the portal, with Porter being the latest addition. The 6-foot, 295-pound Porter had 43 tackles (5.0 for loss) with two sacks this past season. Porter spent the 2024 season at South Carolina.

Malachi Davis, DE

Previous school: Toledo

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Davis spent the past three years at Toledo. He had a productive 2025 season, racking up 35 tackles with 5.5 sacks. A Michigan native, Davis has one year of eligibility remaining.

Zahmir Dawud, CB

Previous school: Villanova

Dawud was Rutgers’ first portal addition of this cycle – and the former Villanova cornerback is coming home. The 6-foot, 185-pound Dawud is a North Brunswick product. He had 44 tackles with two interceptions for the Wildcats this past season. Dawud has two years of eligibility remaining and bolsters a position that lost two transfers in Bo Mascoe (now at Texas) and Jacobie Henderson (Virginia).

Jaedin Lee, DT

Previous school: Maine

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Lee is a high-upside addition to the defensive line. A Virginia native, Lee had 32 tackles (3.5 for loss) for the Black Bears in 2025.

Kameron Anthony, TE

Previous school: Ball State

It was a necessity for Rutgers to add depth at tight end and it took a step toward accomplishing that with the addition of Anthony. The 6-foot-4, 238-pound Anthony also drew interest from Arizona State and Illinois after he went into the portal. An Indiana native, Anthony had seven catches for 117 yards this past season.

Ty Morris, LB

Previous school: Rice

Linebacker was another crucial position Rutgers needed to address via the portal, so Morris helps fill a big need. The 6-foot-2, 229-pound Morris was second on the team 88 tackles (9.5 for loss) this past season.

Isaiah Cook, OL

Previous school: Delaware State

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Cook is a Willingboro native who spent three seasons at Delaware State. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Everett Small, OL

Previous school: Eastern Michigan

Small played in all 12 games foe Eastern Michigan this past season, starting 11 of them. The 6-foot-4, 302-pound Small is an Ontario native. He has three years of eligibility remaining, so he’s a player new offensive line coach Jim Turner could have for a while to develop.

Bradlee Jones, CB

Previous school: Citadel

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jones brings electric speed to Rutgers’ secondary. Also a track star, Jones ran a 10.3-second 100-meter dash. Jones, a South Carolina native, had 53 tackles and nine pass breakups this past season. He has one year of eligibility remaining. Like Dawud, Jones will help fill the spots at cornerback left by Jacobie Henderson and Bo Mascoe, both of whom transferred out.
