Memphis football needs a new defensive coordinator — for the second time in as many weeks.

Jason Semore is leaving for the same role at Georgia Tech, just two weeks after he was introduced as Memphis’ defensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Semore had followed new coach Charles Huff from Southern Miss to Memphis.

Semore was also with Huff at Marshall before the pair came to Southern Miss ahead of the 2025 season.

Huff now needs to hire a new defensive coordinator for his initial staff at Memphis.

After taking over for Ryan Silverfield — who left for Arkansas — Huff decided not to retain any of the coaches left over at Memphis from Silverfield’s staff. He also brought multiple coaches from his staff at Southern Miss, including Semore.

Semore has familiarity with Georgia Tech, as he had multiple stints there as an analyst and as linebackers coach earlier in his career.
